Dr. Oz Talks About How Artichoke Leaf Extract Lowers Your Cholesterol Without Prescription Medications

High cholesterol is a huge problem for so many people all across the country.  Fortunately, Dr. Oz said that there are ways in which you can lower your cholesterol naturally. During this segment on today’s (March 3, 2014) show Dr. Oz talks about how Artichoke Leaf Extract is a natural supplement that has shown great success at lowering cholesterol.  Dr. Oz also shares natural foods that have LDL (bad) cholesterol lowering abilities.

The Difference Between HDL and LDL Cholesterol

Many of us know our “total” cholesterol number, but this doesn’t give us the information that we need when determining if we are at high risk for heart disease.  To determine our risk factor we need to know the difference between HDL (the good cholesterol) and LDL (the bad cholesterol).

Ideally, you want your HDL to be higher than 50.  Your “bad” LDL cholesterol should ideally be under 100.  Your total cholesterol should be under 200, but doctors will be paying more attention to your LDL and HDL numbers when determining your health risks.

Artichoke Leaf Extract Lowers Your Bad Cholesterol

For many people who discover they have high cholesterol get put on medications.  While medications do work to lower your cholesterol, Dr. Oz believes too many people are on medications when they could lower their LDL using natural methods.  Listed below are some natural cholesterol lowering remedies that Dr. Oz shared on the show :

  • Artichoke Leaf Extract – This supplement can literally “choke” your bad cholesterol.  The dosage that Dr. Oz suggested was 500 milligrams at each of your three main meals throughout the day.
  • Oranges contain fiber and fiber helps to remove cholesterol from your body.  Dr. Oz said to be sure to eat the white part on the outside of the orange and in the peel because that is where most of the fiber is located.
  • Foods like alfalfa and broccoli sprouts help to reduce inflammation in the body.
  • Improve the good bacteria in your gut by eating prebiotic foods like asparagus.

Dr. Oz said that making simple adjustments to your diet can help you to reduce your cholesterol to the point where you may no longer need prescription medications!
