Dr. Oz Talks With Chris Powell about How Lose Weight by Gaining Weight

Dr. Oz invited back health and fitness guru Chris Powell on to the show to share his 5 minute workout.  4 easy exercises that you can do in your own home in just 5 minutes!  Chris Powell talks about how the key to lose weight is to gain weight!  Of course, this means gaining muscle mass rather than fat!

Stimulate Your Muscles To Burn Fat

Chris Powell (author of Choose To Lose) explained to Dr. Oz and the viewers that the more muscle that you have, the more calories that you will burn.  Chris said that the best way to stimulate your muscles to burn calories and fat is through resistance training exercises.  The best part is that you don’t have to spend an hour in the gym to experience results.  In just 5 minutes a day you can gain muscle and melt away your fat stores.  Here is the exercise routine that Chris demonstrated on today’s (January 14, 2015) Dr. Oz episode :

  • Chair Squats – With your arms up and out in front of you stand in front of a chair.  Now squat down until your butt touches the edge of the chair.  Chris said to concentrate on using your heels to lift you back up into a standing position.  Chair squats are great for working your hamstrings, glutes, and quads.  Do 10 repetitions.
  • Jumping jacks – Easy to do and effective.  Jumping jacks work your glutes, calves, abs, and shoulders.  Do 10 repetitions.
  • Chair crunches – Sit in a chair with your hands holding on to the sides for support. lift your legs up towards your chest.  Do 10 reps of chair crunches.
  • High knee raises – Stand in place while a knee up towards your chest.  Do this with each legs.  Do 10 repetitions.

After you have done all of the exercises noted above start doing them again until the 5 minutes is up.  Do as many circuits as you can in the five minutes.  Soon you will have added muscle and getting rid of that hard to lose fat will be much easier.
