Most people are well aware that alcohol can cause liver damage.  However, many people don’t realize that the foods they are eating can be harmful to the liver as well.  On today’s (Sept 19) show Dr. Oz devoted a segment to liver damage and why food may be just as bad on your liver as what alcohol is.  The liver is responsible for detoxifying the body and performs hundreds of different functions that are vital towards our health.  Taking care of your liver means more than just avoiding alcohol.

Tips To Avoid Liver DamageWhen your liver is functioning like it should it is removing toxins out of your body.  However, if your liver isn’t functioning at optimal levels toxins can build up in your body and this can lead to many health related problems.  A poorly functioning liver can lead to obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, and many other serious health ailments.

Foods That Are Harmful Towards Your Liver and Should Be Avoided

Dr. Oz said that people generally don’t associate unhealthy foods causing damage to your liver nearly as much as they do alcohol.  Dr. Oz said that in many cases an unhealthy diet can cause even more damage to your liver!  Some of the foods that are the most problematic are the foods that millions of people enjoy all across the country.  Here are the foods that Dr. Oz would like you to avoid or to only eat in moderation :
