Dr. Oz Talks With Deepak Chopra About Food Cravings And What They Say About Your Personality

Dr. Oz and Deepak Chopra and spoke about food cravings and how ginger tea can help to boost your metabolism.  During this segment Deepak discussed food cravings how what they may reveal about your personality.  Are there certain foods that you always seem to crave? Frequent cravings  for sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent foods can give you signals about your emotional, spiritual and physical health.

Food Cravings and Bringing Balance To Your Life

Sweet – Craving sweet foods and from time to time we all need a little sweetness.  However, Deepak Chopra advised that too much is bad for us.  He said that those who crave sweet foods are nurturing in nature but if your cravings cause you too eat too much it’s not a good thing.  He said that if your sweet tooth is getting the best of you you should drink a glass of milk.  It will help give you a feeling of fullness and relieve your cravings.

Salty – If you only succumb to your salty cravings in moderation it will help to give you enthusiastic thoughts.  However, if you overdo it you will become aggravated.  To reduce salty cravings eat one half cup of watermelon.

Sour – Do you frequently crave lemons or grapefruit? Sour foods can help to bring out stimulating thoughts.  However, too much sour foods can make you become critical.  Deepak suggested trying to limit your sour cravings by only squeezing a lemon slice on to your food at mealtime.

Astringent – Many people crave astringent foods like pomegranates.  Deepak said that astringent foods bring out your wittiness personality. However, too much can cause you to become cynical.  You can balance yourself out by adding a spoonful of water to yogurt.

Pungent – Foods containing ginger or cinnamon.  Pungent foods can help to bring out your zest and passion for life. On the contrary, too much pungent foods can bring out hostility.  Limit your consumption by only adding a pinch to your meals.

Bitter – Broccoli and peppers are two foods that lie in the “bitter” foods category.  They help to give you energy. However, when you eat too much you can become resentful.  Deepak Chopra suggested eating a few pieces of raw vegetables during your meals to stay in balance.
