When you reach for the diet soda’s or artificial sweeteners you may have always thought that you were doing a positive thing. You may have thought they would help you lose weight because they contained very little or no calories at all. However, your good intentions may be having the opposite effect. On November 20 Dr. Oz talks about how diet soda can reduce your metabolism and make it harder to lose weight. Dr. Oz also talked about artificial sweeteners and how they can prevent your from losing weight or even cause you to gain weight!
Diet Soda and Artificial Sweetener Health Risks
Dr. Oz has on several occasions talked about health dangers associated with the consumption of diet sodas. They can weaken your bones, teeth, and even raise your risk of diabetes.
People who drink two or more sodas per day are at much higher risk of gaining weight.
Artificial Sweeteners Confuse The Brain
Artificial sweeteners have a way of confusing the brain that does more harm than good. Artificial sweeteners are many times sweeter than sugar. Your brain gets confused and sends signals to crave more sweets. This leads to snacking on unhealthy foods that are high in sugar. While you may be using artificial sweeteners with good intentions, you may be giving yourself uncontrollable hunger cravings for sweets that will blow any diet or good nutrition plan that you have been trying to abide by.
Tips To Reduce Or Eliminate Diet Sodas and Artificial Sweeteners From Your Diet
- Cut down on your diet soda intake by one can a day for an entire week.
- The next week remove another can from your daily intake
- Substitute with carbonated water (that doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners). Give it some flavor by adding fresh lemon or lime juice.
- Use natural artificial sweeteners like Stevia or monk fruit. Dr. Oz just recently did an episode all about the benefits of monk fruit natural sweetenersand why they are a better option.
