What Causes Leaky Gut Syndrome

Dr. Oz invited to Dr. Chutkan to share with the audience the causes of Leaky Gut.  She said that when the food that when you consume food it goes to your gut.  Nutrients will be absorbed and the waste will travel through your intestinal tract until it is eventually released.  When a person has Leaky Gut Syndrome chemicals and toxins are leaked into the body that can cause all of the symptoms that are noted above.

Dr. Oz said that eating the right foods is important if you want to reduce leaky gut symptoms.  He said that if you eat the right foods it will be converted into energy.  When you are eating poorly, chemicals and toxins get leaked into your body.   This then taxes your immune system which is trying to combat the chemicals and toxins released into your body.

What Triggers Leaky Gut Syndrome?

Dr. Chutkan said that side effects for Leaky Gut can be triggered by many things.  For example, food allergies and sensitivity can trigger undesirable symptoms.  Here are other triggers that were shared on today’s Dr. Oz :

  • Food allergies
  • Antibiotics
  • Diets high in sugar
  • Parasites
  • Excessive use of NSAIDS, which stands for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
