There are healthy (and plenty of not so healthy) foods that increase the dopamine levels in our brain which have a big impact on the cravings that we experience while on a diet. When you deprive yourself of certain foods your brain will respond with nearly uncontrollable cravings which make in nearly impossible to stay on your diet. When you know the reasoning behind your food cravings you will have the knowledge to put your cravings at ease without resorting to snacking on the unhealthy foods that you will likely be craving. However, when you overeat your dopamine levels can plummet causing your body to be insensitive to dopamine. This can be compared to someone who is addicted to drugs that needs more of the drug to get that same “high”.

The good news is that Dr. Wylde has said that if your body is insensitive to dopamine you can reactive the receptors in your brain. He explains to Dr. Oz that when you resist the temptations to overeat on the wrong foods you will cause your brain to reactivate your brain receptors and you will be more sensitive to dopamine. This will greatly reduce the cravings that you are feeling. When your dopamine levels are high you will receive that same “high” from lesser amounts of food.

When you follow the dopamine diet you will not only be eating healthy, you will be changing the way your brain sends out signals for food cravings.
