How Do You “Fix Your Life?”

Motivational speaker Iyanla Vanzant talked to Dr. Oz about how she has experienced many high and low points in her life.  She said that she has learned that it is very important that you be honest about your pain and you shouldn’t bury the pain. She said that it also helps to be open and to talk about your pain.  The host of “Fix My Life”, Iyanla explained to Dr. Oz that it is her goal to empower people to overcome obstacles and pain rather than letting the pain lead them on to unhealthy paths.

Fear & The Three Causes Of Emotional Pain

Dr. Oz Asked Iyanla Vanzant to help explain why people experience emotional pain and what is the root cause that makes us experience emotional pain.  She said that “Fear” is the root behind 3 causes of emotional pain and each one can lead us into making unhealthy decisions (one of which can lead to over eating and weight gain).  Here are the 3 causes of emotional pain that gave to the viewers :

  • The fear of losing love or not being loved
  • The fear of not being seen, valued, or heard
  • Fear of speaking our authentic voice

How To Overcome The Cause Of Your Emotional Pain

Life coach, Iyanla Vanzant explained to Dr. Oz that people need to “feel, deal, and heal” to get past emotional pain.  She said that many people cover up their feelings and this prevents them from healing.  She said that they need to feel the anger, guilt, and shame that they may be feeling. Iyanla believes that it’s important to confront your feelings to be able to heal in a healthy way.

Women Should Ask For Help

Iyanla Vanzant said that many women cover up their emotional feelings and this prevents healing.  She told Dr. Oz that she felt like she was losing her mind when she lost her daughter to colon cancer.  She said that many women fall in to the trap of feeling like they need to take care of everyone else and they never find the time to take care of themselves as well.  She said the day after she had to bury she daughter she didn’t get out of her bed for 6 months.  People did her laundry, took her food, and cared for her. She learned that people need to learn that its ok to ask for help to get through this sort of emotional pain.  One day she got a phone call and was asked to host the show “Starting Over”.  She accepted the invite and thought it was important to help others get through their loss an she would do the show in the name of her daughter.
