Dr. Oz Talks With Dr. Joel Fuhrman About His Book, “The End of Dieting” and His Permanent Weight Loss Plan

Do you always begin diets with the best of intentions but then end up disappointed with marginal success?  Or maybe, the diet’s “rules” are too rigid to stay on for long term?  Today (March 24, 2015) Dr. Oz invited Dr. Joel Fuhrman on to the show to talk about his book, (The End of Dieting) philosophies, and why diets are actually bad for you.  Instead of yo-yo dieting, Dr. Fuhrman shared his guidelines on how to lose weight permanently.  Once you know the general philosophies to follow you will never have to follow the latest diets that claim excellent results but generally don’t deliver (or are not good for you).

Is Dieting Bad For You?

Dr. Oz believes that dieting is dangerous and all too often leaves you worse off then before starting the diet.  He believes that peole should give up dieting because yo-yo dieting (losing weight and gaining it all back) can increase your risk for heart disease and cancer.   Here are three of the trendiest dieting out there and what Dr. Joel Fuhrman thinks of each :

Paleo Diet – This program can help you lose weight but you will be ingesting a lot of animal proteins.  Dr. Fuhrman believes that too much animal proteins can raise your risk for heart disease and breast cancer.

Mediterranean Diet –  High in fat and contains a lot of white flour.  Not healthy to stay on long term.

Wheat Belly – Dr. Fuhrman explained to Dr. Oz and the audience that this diet can be wholesome and healthy if you are careful to avoid highly processed foods.  He also said the Wheat Belly diet confuses people into believing that they have to avoid wheat from their diet altogether.

Permanent Weight Loss – Eat “G-Bomb” Foods and Never Get Fat

What does “G-BOMBS” foods stand for?  Its an acronym for “Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries and Seeds.”  Dr. Fuhrman said that you can eat as much of these foods as you want and you will achieve permanent weight loss and lower your risk for serious diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc…

Tip : Eat “Slow Foods” at breakfast.  Slow foods help to satisfy your appetite for a long time.  Slow food examples include : Oatmeal, berries, and chia seeds.

Orange Sesame Salad Dressing Recipe

Eating nutrient dense foods that are high in phytochemicals is another way that you will achieve permanent weight loss.  Dr. Fuhrman suggests that people should eat salads each day that contain colorful veggies..  You should also be using a health salad dressing rather than unhealthy salad dressings that are the majority sold at grocery stores.

Here is his Orange Sesame Salad Dressing recipe that you can use on your daily salads!

Ingredients :

  • 2 peeled oranges
  • 1/4 cup of raw cashews (you can also use 2 tbsp of raw cashew butter instead)
  • 3 tbsp of divided hulled sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp of white wine vinegar
  • Orange juice (optional for liquid density preference)

Preparation directions :

  • In a pan, toast sesame seeds over medium high heat for a few minutes.  Stir the sesame seeds while shaking the pan.
  • Add in cashews, vinegar, and peeled oranges and blend.
  • Add in some orange juice if you like
  • Sprinkle the remaining seeds over the top of your salad.
  • Enjoy..  The Orange Sesame Salad recipe is easy to make and a much healthier option!
