On today’s (February 3, 2014) episode Dr. Oz talks about how fennel seed is a wonderful remedy for bloating and shares an “anti-bloating” recipe that you can drink first thing in the morning to keep you from bloating during the course of the day.
Dr. Oz said that your diet that you eat (or drink) is a common culprit for bloating problems. He said that women are more prone to bloating because their colon has more curves to it. This causes food passing through to get stomach and gas builds up. This can lead to stomach cramping and bloat. Dr. Oz invited Dr. Robynne Chutkan (author of Gutbliss) on to the show to talk about bloating in women. She said that one of the best things you can do is to prevent bloating from starting first thing in the morning. Here is the Anti-Bloating elixier that she shared on the show.
Anti-Bloat Breakfast Drink
- 1 cup of coconut water
- 1/2 cup of papaya
- 1/2 cup of pineapple
- 1 tbsp acacia fiber powder

Dr. Chutkan recommends that you consume 25 grams of fiber a day to prevent bloating. While this may seem like a lot, it can easily be done if it is consumed throughout the course of a day. Dr. Chutkan said that your lunch should be your biggest meal during the day. She said that your digestive system is the most active during the afternoon. This is also the time when you are in need of calories to give you the energy that you need to get you through the afternoon.Tips To Prevent Bloating
- Eat a small dinner that is finely chopped. This lessens the work load for your digestive system.
- Don’t eat leftover pasta dishes like rice, potatoes, or pastas. Reheated pasta dishes turn into resistant starches and is harder on your digestive system to digest.
