Dr. Oz Talks With Dr. Cynthia Green About Pesticides in Foods, Alzheimer’s Risk and Fish Oil Supplements

Alzheimer’s Disease effects far too many people and can devastate families afflicted with this disease.  Dr. Oz invited Cynthia Green (PHD and author of Your Best Brain Ever) on to the show to talk about a recent study about Alzheimer’s linked with high levels of the pesticide DDT.

What Foods Contain High Levels Of DDT

Cynthia Green said that people with Alzheimer’s has 4 times the amount of pesticide DDT than those who do not suffer from Alzheimer’s.  In her book book, “Your Best Brain Ever“, she talks in detail about the link between the pesticide DDT and Alzheimer’s.  DDT is banned in the US, but the problem arises when you eat imported foods from countries that have not banned DDT.  Here are the vegetables that have the highest amounts of pesticides :

  • Grapes
  • Potatoes
  • Strawberries
  • Spinach

Lower Your Risk of Alzheimer’s Risk With Fish Oil

Fortunately there is an easy way in which you can lower your risk for ever getting Alzheimer’s disease.  A new study has found that Omega 3’s can help protect against brain shrinkage.  The results shown even greater protection for women.  Cynthia Green explained to Dr. Oz that consuming more Omega 3’s into your diet can lower your risk for getting Alzheimer’s..  Here are the recommendations that were given.

  • Eat 3 servings of cold water fish 3 times per week.  Examples of cold water fish include sardines, herring, salmon.
  • Another way to get Omega 3’s into yor diet would be to take 1000 IU’s of a Fish Oil Supplement every day.

Pulse Pressure Linked To Alzheimer’s

Dr. Oz talked about another study that shows that you can reduce your risk of getting Alzheimer’s Disease by reducing your Pulse Pressure.  Your Pulse Pressure is the number your get when you subtract the high number of your blood pressure reading from your low number.  So, if your blood pressure was 115/75 then your pulse pressure would be 40.  Dr. Oz said that you need to be concerned when your pulse pressure is 60 or higher.  If you have high pulse pressure it may indicate that your arteries are stiff and you are at a greater risk for getting Alzheimer’s.
