Dr. Oz Talks About Kitchen Tips – How To Peel Garlic, and Make The Perfect Potatoes

Today Dr. Oz did a segment (with Jack Bishop of America’s Test Kitchen) on how you can prepare your family meals more efficiently.  Dr. Oz talks with Jack Bishop about how to extend the life of your tomatoes & berries.  Also learn tips on how to make perfect chicken, thaw your meat, and even how to peel your garlic cloves with ease!

How To Make Perfect Chicken

Dr. Oz spoke with a woman who loves to feed her family health meals.  However, whenever she makes chicken it always comes out too dry.  Also, her vegetable dishes always seem to turn out too much and without flavor.  Jack Bishop offered these tips on how to make perfect chicken.

Blanch & Shock Your Veggies – Jack Bishop suggested blanching your chicken (up to three days ahead of time).  First you boil the vegetables for three to four minutes.  Drain the veggies and place in ice water.  Drain the vegetables and pat dry.  When you are ready to cook the meal alll you have to do is heat them up in a pan.  Be sure to add some olive oil and spices for added flavor.

Par-Cook and Sear Chicken – Salt the chicken to help seal in juices. Poke chicken with fork. Seal pan with foil and bake at 275 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.  After you have baked the chicken sear the chicken in a hot pan for 3-4 minutes on one side & then sear the other side of the chicken for 3 to 4 more minutes.How To make Perfect Sweet Potatoes

  • Peel sweet potatoes and then cut into wedges
  • Place sweet potatoes on baking rack at 325 degrees for 30 minute
  • Increase temperature to 475 degrees… Season with salt, spices, and a small portion of sugar.  Bake an additional 15-20 minutes

Tip On How To Thaw Meat

In case you forgot to thaw your meat ahead of time, here is a tip to thaw your meat at the last minute :

  • Place meat in a sealed plastic bag.
  • Fill a bowl with hot water and place the meat into the hot water

Extend The Life Of Berries – Mix three parts water to 1 part vinegar in a bowl to clean your berries.  Rinse, drain, and pat dry.  Place your berries in an airtight container.

Increase Shelf Life Of Tomatoes – Tomatoes will last longer if you store them stem side down.

Peeling garlic cloves can bee a pain.  Jack Bishop gave the following tip on today’s Dr. Oz to make garlic peeling easy as can be!

    Microwaving garlic cloves for 15 to 20 seconds will allow you to peel off the skin quickly and easily!
