A cool and crispy salad may be full of healthy ingredients, but most recipes also include unhealthy condiments like mayo or dressings that are made with unhealthy fats. On today’s show Dr. Oz invited Rachael Ray on to the show to share her recipes on how to make a healthy burger salad, bbq ribs, potato salad, chips n dip, and a refreshing kale cocktail. Eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice taste. There are plenty of ways to substitute healthy ingredients in place of the traditional unhealthy ingredients that can lead to weight gain.
Healthy Potato Salad Recipe
Potato salad is one of the comforting side dishes that is delicious to eat but are usually made with unhealthy (and fattening) mayonnaise. Rachael Ray explained to Dr. Oz that an easy way to remedy this is to swap out the mayonnaise with a healthy oil and vinegar. Here are some of Rachael Ray’s suggestions to make a delicious potato salad in a much healthier way!
- Instead of using may use low fat greek yogurt instead!
- Add vegetables to the potato salad. This will add nutrients as well as fiber
- Add fruit juice or vinegar for added flavors
- Add some herbs (chopped)
- Add some grated garlic
- Add some feta cheese. Just a little will add a nice tangy flavor to the potato salad
Healthy Burger On Salad
A juicy burger is a reminder that summer has arrived! However, big juicy burgers also are loaded with calories and fat. Try this healthy burger salad recipe without using bread. Enjoy the bread without all of the added carbohydrates!
- Make mini burgers
- Serve the burgers on a bed of lettuce, onions, and tomatoes
- Instead of using cheese try mustard vinaigrette instead!
Rachael Ray’s Healthy Chips and Dips Recipe
Chips and dips are a mainstay at parties, barbecues, or just about any other social function. However, most dips and chips are full of fat and calories.. Here is Rachael Ray’s healthier chips and dip recipe :
- Instead of using dips use corn salsa instead
- Serve with high fiber chips or veggies
- Add some mint to the corn salsa dip
Healthy Barbecue Ribs Recipe
What’s a barbecue without barbecue ribs? Rachael Rays revealed a secret to make them a much healthier meal for your family. Rachael said that you should par-boil them before you dress them and throw them on the grill.
Directions : In a pot filled with some water simmer the ribs and add the ingredients listed below. This will add flavor to your ribs (while removing excess fat) before you throw them on the grill. Par broiling your ribs will also add a meaty flavor to the veggies listed below as well!
- 2 stalks of celery
- 2 carrots
- 1 onion
- 1 handful of parsley
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 jalapeno chili
- 1 lime
- Salt and pepper to taste
Barbecue Sauce Recipe
Traditional barbecue sauce is loaded with sugar and calories. Here is Rachael Ray’s healthy method to prepare your own homemade barbecue sauce.
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 cup of organic ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp dark agave nectar
- 1 1/2 tbsp cider vinegar
- 1-2 tbsp of ground chipotle chile powder
- Black pepper
Braise the ribs with olive oil and grill for 8 to 10 minutes. After the ribs have been cooked baste with the bbq sauce that you prepared. Garnish with freshly squeezed lime juice & scallions.So how many calories will this recipe save you? A traditional bbq ribs recipe will contain approximately 718 calories. Here are the ingredients to make a “Tomato Margarita Recipe”Ingredients :
- 1 tomato
- 1/2 freshly squeezed lime
- Handful of cilantro
- 1 1/2 ounces of tequila
- 1 1/2 oz of orange curacao
- 1 tsp agave nectar
- Fresh basil (as a garnish)
Mash up the tomato and mix all the ingredients above in a glass. Mix thoroughly and enjoy your tomato cocktail.

- 1/2 squeezed lime
- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 1/2 oz of simple ginger syrup
