Dr. Oz Healthy Recipes : Sauerkraut Slaw, Healthy hilly Cheesesteak, California Nachos

Today’s show was all about taking your health back.  Dr. Oz shared Body Detox Cleanses and healthy foods that can help to flush toxins out of your body.  During the latter half of the show Dr. Oz shares healthy recipes such as Sauerkraut Slaw, Healthy Philly and New York Cheesesteaks, and California Nacho recipes.

Sauerkraut Slaw Recipe

Dr. Oz invited Heidi Skolnik (nutritionist) on to the show to talk about how fermented foods promote growth of healthy bacteria in our gut.  She said that if you have an intestinal problem there is food out there to fix it!  She said that when you are choosing a fermented food from the grocery store you should look for “Raw” or “Lacto-Fermented” on the packaging.  Here is the Sauerkraut Slaw recipe that was shared on the show.

Ingredients :

  • 2 cups of raw sauerkraut
  • 1 small carrot (grated)
  • 2 tbsp light olive oil
  • 1 tsp stevia
  • Pepper to taste

This little side dish is not only tasty, it will provide you with healthy bacteria for your gut.Jo-Lynne’s Healthy Philly Cheesesteak Recipe :Ingredients :

  • 4 whole wheat hot dog rolls
  • 1 lb of sliced chop steak
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 sweet onion
  • 4 slices of provalone cheese

A traditional philly cheesesteak contains 721 calories – Jo-Lynne’s version only contains 485 calories!

Healthy California Nachos Recipe

Ingredients :

  • 6 whole wheat tortillas
  • 1 bag of corn (frozen)
  • 1 can of black beans
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 pint of grape tomatoes
  • cilantro (fresh)
  • lime juice
  • Avocado slices
  • pickled jalapenos
  • feta cheese
  • Sunflower oil

A traditional California nacho recipe contains approximately 613 calories.  Caroline’s Cali nachos only contains 215 calories!

New York Cheesesteak Recipe

Ingredients :

  • 3/4 cup of unsalted raw cashews
  • 3/4 cup of dates (pitted)
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 oz cream cheese (reduced fat)
  • 1 1/4 cups of plain greek yogurt
  • 3 tbsp of honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp of unflavored powdered gelatin
  • Strawberry slices

Traditional New York Cheesesteak contains 481 calories.  Hannah’s NY Cheesesteak recipe only contains 263 calories!
