Dr. Oz Talks About Health Risks From Wearing High Heels & Best Wedge Shoes To Wear As an Alternative
It’s a well known fact that most women love shoes and this is never going to change anytime soon. However, Dr. Oz would love to persuade some women to consider healthier alternatives to high heeled shoes. Shoes with high heels can cause a myriad of health issues like a shortening of your achilles tendon, pain, discomfort, and more. On today’s show Dr. Oz set out to the streets of New York City to try and convince women to choose comfort over style when it comes to what you wear on your feet. Special guest Steven Tyler from Aerosmith was a special guest today, so to the tune of “Dude, Looks Like A Lady” Dr. Oz dressed up like a woman and hit the streets in his high heeled shoes! Problems Caused By High Heel Shoes
Dr. Oz invited three women to come on stage to showcase their high heels so Dr. Oz could demonstrate the health risks that high heeled shoes may impose. Dr. Oz said that high heeled shoes don’t just impose a health risk to your feet but can even be harmful for other areas of your body as well. They can :
- Cause your achilles tendon to shorten
- Can case back aches
- knee pain
- The bones in your feet can bend which may cause pain
- Can disrupt the alignment of your spine
Dr. Oz said that if you refuse to give up your high heeled shoes to consider wearing a 2 inch heel with a wide toe box. This will help to limit back and knee problems.
Best Wedge Shoes
Wedge shoes can be problematic because they are narrow and put you at risk for twisting your ankle. If you love wedge shoes, Dr. Oz said to buy a wedge that has a wide sole and extra cushioning in the ball of your foot area.
Flat Shoes Can Cause Plantar Fasciitis
Would you ever consider throwing out your high heeled shoes for a more comfortable and healthier shoe? Flats may be a contributor to Plantar Fasciitis which can be quite painful. Plantar Fasciitis is a painful inflammatory process of the plantar fascia. It is often caused by the overuse of the arch tendon of the foot. It is also a difficult condition to treat.
Flat shoes without the proper arch support can cause Plantar Fascittis because they lack the support that your food needs. Dr. Oz suggested :
- Look for shoes that have a built in arch and rigid sole that you can’t bend in half. Aerosoles would be a good option to consider.
- Add inserts to your flats to help give your arch some support.
