Dr Oz’s 5 Step Super Longevity Plan – Can Beer Help You Live Longer?

Today Dr. Oz unveiled a 5 step plan that can help you to not only live longer, but to live an active and energetic life all throughout  your life’s journey.  There are simple steps that you can follow to help increase your longevity and lower your risk for cancer and heart disease. Cut Cancer and Heart Disease Risk With Low Dose Aspirin

Low dose aspirin taken every day has been shown to lower your risk for heart disease.  Recent findings are showing that low dose aspirin has other benefits as will.  Dr. Oz said that aspirin can nearly cut your risk for cancer in half for certain cancers!  (by as much as 40 percent!).  So what dosage is recommended to receive benefits?  Men and women should take two low dose (or baby aspirin) every day to receive heart and cancer protection.

Eat Vegetarian Meals During The Week For A Longer Life

Cancer, diabetes, and heart disease are three of the biggest causes of death in the United States.  There are easy changes that you can instill into your daily regime to prevent these deadly diseases that affect so many.  One particular recommendation (part of Dr. Oz’s “longevity trifecta for women”) is to eat vegetarian meals during the weekdays and save the meals that include meat for the weekends..  He realizes that most families will resist removing meat entirely from their meals so saving those dishes for the weekend is a reasonable compromise.  You can still enjoy delicious meals that will leave you satisfied as if you had just eaten a meat laden meal.  Here is the Mexican Vegetable Lasagna Recipe that was shared on the show.

Mexican Vegetable Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients (for 4 servings)

  • one 15 ounce can of vegetarian chili
  • one 14.5 ounce can of diced tomatoes (fire roasted)
  • 3/4 cups of corn kernels (frozen)
  • 1 mashed avocado
  • 1/4 cup of ground cashews (cashews can be replaced with another nut if you desire)
  • Eight 6 inch corn tortillas
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of cayenne
  • tsp cumin

Preparation directions :

  • Set oven to 400 degrees and preheat
  • Grease 8×8 cooking dish
  • Add 3/4 cup diced tomatoes and spread over tortillas
  • Add and spread 1 cup of vegetarian chili
  • Add 1/2 cup of corn kernels
  • Add half of the mashed avocados
  • Add salt and cayenne pepper, and cumin
  • Add the crushed cashews (or other nut) across the top
  • Bake for 15 minutes
  • Sprinkle with cilantro

Can Drinking Beer Help You Live Longer?

There has been a recently study in Italy that has shown that beer has many of the same heart healthy benefits as wine when taken in moderation.  Dr. Oz said that this is because of the B vitamins and malted barley that beer contains.  Dr. Oz recommend 1 light beer a day can provide benefits to your heart and bones and increase your longevity.

Get Up and Move 15 Minutes Before 7 AM

This recommendation Dr. Oz doesn’t seem quite as surprising as the beer recommendation he gave to increase longevity.  He said that if you get up and move for 15 minutes everyday before 7 AM you can add two years on to your life.  He said that getting up and getting some exercise in before 7 AM will also help you sleep better at night.Stand Up For 5 Minutes Every Hour For Life Extension BenefitsDr. Oz said that sitting for too long (4 or more hours) can increase your risk for diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.  Dr. Oz recommends standing up for five minutes for every hour to help extend your life.
