Dr. Oz Talks With Dr. Roshini Raj About The O Diet and Foods You Can Eat and Ones To Eliminate
Today (April 10, 2014) Dr. Oz invited Dr. Roshini Raj about a new diet that wasn’t so much about losing weight as it was to end chronic disease. The O-Diet is short for “The Oligoantigenic Diet” and can help eliminate or reduce diseases / symptoms associated with body inflammation such as migraines, eczema, asthma, gastrointestinal conditions and more. Originally the O Diet was formulated to help identify food allergies in children. This anti-inflammatory diet has proven to be effective and adults are trying it with success as well.
Elimination Diet To Cut Out Foods That Trigger Inflammation
Dr. Oz said that the O Diet is controversial to some and considered extreme by many, but if you suffer from a chronic disease or ailment that is limiting your ability to enjoy life as you should it may be a diet that you may want to consider! The elimination plan cuts out foods that are causing the inflammation in your body that is contributing to chronic diseases. The diet is extreme in that you aren’t left with a whole lot of choices during your meals, but the results have proven to be effective..
Dr. Oz spoke with one woman (named Tasha) who has been living with Migraines for nearly 30 years. She has tried all sorts of medications, alternative therapies, but could never effectively treat the migraines that she was suffering from. She was having 6-12 migraines each month. The O-Diet is effective for people suffering from problems such as this. So, what foods do you have to eliminate?
Foods That You Shouldn’t Eat
Here are the foods that you should avoid :
Here Foods You Can Eat On The O-Diet
Dr. Raj said that inflammation of the gut is the culprit of many chronic diseases because your 70% of your immune system comes from your gut. If you eliminate the foods that that are triggering inflammation in your stomach you can greatly reduce or eliminate the chronic inflammatory diseases that affect so many!
Here are foods that you can eat on the O-Diet
- White starches such as white rice and potatoes
- Extra virgin olive oil, Sunflower oil
- Cruciferous vegetables examples would be cabbage, broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, etc..
- Apples, pears, bananas (other fruits should be avoided)
Will The O Diet Work For You?
Tasha (the woman who suffered 6-12 migraines per month) said that the O diet was difficult in the beginning. However, once she got started her migraines were greatly reduced. She feels that the O-Diet may be a long lasting answer to the migraine headaches that she has suffered through for nearly 3 decades!
After Two Weeks On The O-Diet, Food Reintroduction
Dr. Raj explained to Dr. Oz that to find out what foods are triggering your inflammation you should reintroduce foods that you eliminated from your diet one at at time. When you add a food back into your diet you should do so one at time for 3 days. Wait and take note how your body reacts. If you feel ok, you can continue to eat that particular food. Add another food for 3 days and so on so forth…. This way you can tell which food/s that you should be eliminating from your diet permanently.
When the woman (Tasha) reintrodued eggs back to her diet everything was ok.. Her problem food that she feels was triggering her migraines was milk. So, she has eliminated milk from her diet.
