Dr. Oz Talks About Rules and Guidelines To Follow When It Comes To Packaged Food Labels
As you are out doing your weekly grocery shopping for your family do you read the labels. Even if you do read the labels do you know what all of the ingredients mean? During today’s latter segment on the show he talks about “Packaged Food Guidelines” and rules you should follow so you know which artificial ingredients you should avoid. Keep your family as safe as possible from artificial ingredients that are unhealthy.
Packaged Food Guidelines
Dr. Oz had hidden camera’s placed while in some volunteer’s shopping carts to see what kinds of choices they were making in the grocery store. While they did make some healthy choices they also made some questionable choices. Dr. Oz then talked to the participants about their choices and here is the packaged food guidelines and rules to follow he created to make shopping an easier, and healthier experience for everyone who wants to make smart choices while food shopping.
- Make sure that the package doesn’t contain ANY Trans Fats
- 4 grams of saturated fat or less
- Make sure the label says it has less that 600 mg of sodium
- 500 calories or less per serving
Hidden Sugar Guidelines
It’s hard to totally refrain from sugar because it naturally occurs in fruits and vegetables. Its the hidden sugars that Dr. Oz is concerned about. He said that they can be found all throughout the grocery store aisles. He said that the rules that are in the “Packaged Food Rules” apply to the sugary food rules as well but you should also read the labels for the following when purchasing foods that may contain hidden sugars :
- 4 grams of sugar or less
- Be sure to avoid any foods that contain diacetyl
- Avoid artificial sweeteners
- High fructose corn syrup
- Artificial sweeteners
- Avoid brown rice syrup
- Avoid any food that is hydrogenated
