Dr. Oz Talks About The Pear Body Shape & Metabolism & Associated Health Risks Like Osteoporosis
Dr. Oz and Dr. Jeffrey Morrison discussed body shapes on today’s show. Whether you are an pear, box type, or apple body shape there is a distinct reason why your body stores fat in places that it does. Dr. Morrison & Dr. Oz talk about why 2/3 of women have the pear body shape and why this type has a tendency to store fat in the hips, thighs, and butt. What Causes The Pear Body To Store Fat In The Hips and Butt
Women who have the pear body type are in good company because 2/3 of women share this particular body shape. Dr. Morrison explained that the pear body has fat that is stored in the hips, thighs, and butt and unfortunately it’s the last place that the fat wants to leave. The reason why pear shaped women have a hard time losing weight in the bottom region is because estrogen is produced in the fat cells and estrogen levels spike during menstruation and pregnancy. Dr. Morrison explained on Dr. Oz that this can be cycle that is very hard for many women to overcome.
The reason why women with pear body types store fat in the hips, thighs, and butt have problems losing weight in this area has to do with evolution. In the past women would store fat in this area to be used by the baby during pregnancy. Modern day diets are different but a woman’s body still has a tendency to store fat in these areas.
Dr. Oz performed an on stage explanation to show the viewers what is happening inside your body that creates a hormone imbalance. He said that when the hormones become imbalanced is allows the fat to be stored in the cells. The cells eventually become engorged and gets pushed out of place creating cellulite pockets. The hormonal imbalance in this area also causes the skin to become thinner and more cellulite will be apparent.
Pear Body Shapes & Osteoporosis Risk
There is an associated osteoporosis risk for women who have the pear body type. Dr. Morrison explained that this happens because during a woman’s menstruation years a woman has plenty of calcium in her bones. However, after menopause a woman starts to lose calcium in their bones causing them to weaken. Other health risks associated with pear body shapes include :
- Varicose veins
- Joint problems
Dr. Morrison said that pear body types have excessive estrogen which leads to weight gain in :
- Belly pouch
- Lower hips
