 Dr Oz – Hungry Girl Recipes – Philly Cheesesteak, Butternut Squash Fries, & Whoopie Pie -Emotional Eating Solutions

Dr. Oz invited Hungry Girl’s Lisa Lillien back on to her show to share guilt free emotional eating solutions.  Emotional eating can be triggered by depression, stress, boredom, anger, and a plethora of other emotions that lead us to eat even when we aren’t hungry!  During this segment Dr. Oz and Lisa shared some of the Hungry Girl’s favorite emotional eating recipes to greatly reduce the amount of fat and calories that you consume while eating “comfort foods”.

Freezy Whoopie Pie Recipe

When of the biggest reasons that people “emotional eat” is stress. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you eat the right foods according to Lisa Lillien.  She said new research suggests that dark chocolate lowers stress hormones and can actually help to boost your mood.  Of course, moderation is the key and the Hungry Girl’s “Freezy Whoopie Pie” recipe is a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth and boost your spirits at the same time. All without eating excessive calories and fats like other pie recipes would likely contain.

  • 1 deep chocolate partially thawed Vita Top
  • 1/4 cup of frozen light whipped topping

Preparation directions :

  • Cut the Vita Top in half and add the whipped topping.  Add the other half of the Vita Top to make make a sandwich.  You can either enjoy the Freezy Whoopie Pie immediately or you can freeze it.

Raspberry Kiss Crunchettes

Ingredients :

  • 15 frozen mini phyllo shells
  • 15 dark chocolate Hershey’s kisses
  • 15 raspberries

Preparation directions :

Heat oven to 350 degrees and bake the phyllo shells with Hersey’s kisses for approximately 3 minutes.  After the Hersey’s kisses are softened remove from oven and add rasperries.

Swap-Tastic Philly Cheesesteak Recipe by Hungry Girl Lisa Lillien

Some people reach for “comfort foods” as their emotional eating vice.  Dr. Oz asked Hungry Girl to share one of her favorite comfort meal recipes.  She said that Philly Cheesesteaks’s are one of her favorite comfort foods so she shared her recipe that you can enjoy without all of the guilt!

Ingredients :

  • 6 oz lean beefsteak filets (raw)
  • 2 slices 2 percent milk American cheese slices
  • 2 hot dog buns (light)
  • 2/3 cup of sliced onions

Preparation directions :

Heat pan to medium high.  Cook the onions until soft.  Add in the beefsteak fillet strips and cook 3 minutes until browned. Melt cheese on to the fillet strips. Enjoy your Philly cheesesteak without the guilt!  So how many calories did you save?  A traditional Philly Cheesesteak sandwich has approximately 1,700 calories.  The Hungry Girl’s Philly Cheesesteak contains only 400 calories!  Comfort food without the guilt!
Hungry Girl’s Butternut Squash FriesSome emotional eaters crave greesy food that is high in fat.  Here is Lisa’s “Bake-Tastic” Butternut Squash Fries recipe that you can swap in place of greesy french fries.Ingredients :

  • 2 lbs of butternut squash
  • Coarse salt
  • Ketchup

Preparation directions :

Peel and cut the butternut squash into french fry strips and add to a cooking sheet.  Set oven to 425 degrees and preheat.  Sprinkle the butternut squash fries with salt and bake for 20 minutes.  Turn the butternut squash fries and cook for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.  Remove and enjoy!
