Quick and Clean Diet Tips

Dari Alexander (author of the book “The Quick and Clean Diet” literally became a guinea pig when she was doing research for her book.  She tried all the popular diets with limited success.  She said that they work in the beginning but soon she would feel restricted and the diets would ultimately fail.  Dari came up with the Quick and Clean diet as a weight loss plan that will work for the long term.  She explained to Dr. Oz that it’s important to like the food that you are eating.  When you feel like you are depriving yourself from foods that you love the diet probably will not work for the long term.

Dari keeps these flavor enhancers, spices and sweeteners in her pantry :

    • Liquid Amino – This is a seasoning spice that is derived from soybeans.  She explained that there isn’t any sodium in liquid amino but it tastes similar to soy sauce.
    • Spices – Adds flavor to your food without adding calories

Agave nectar – Use this sweetener instead of sugarVegetable and/or chicken broth – Adds flavor and you can use broth in place of oil.  It also adds moisture to dishes that may seem a little dryPanko breadcrumbs – Are great for adding a little bit of that “crunch” factor that you may be craving

Shrimp Taco Lettuce Wrap Recipe

Dr. Oz & Dari Alexander talk about the “Quick and Clean” diet and share this shrimp taco lettuce wrap.

One of the secrets to The Quick and Clean Diet is to be able to make quick and easy meals that are also flavorful and healthy.  Here is the shrimp taco lettuce wrap recipe that she shares with Dr. Oz on the June 6, 2013 episode.

Ingredients :

  • 4 oz shrimp
  • 1/4 cups of bean sprouts
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • Large Boston lettuce wraps
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 diced tomato
  • 1 tsp chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 lime
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Preparation directions :

    • In a pan saute the bean sprouts & garlic in canola oil
    • Add shrimp to the pan and cook until the shrimp turns pink (be sure to stir the shrimp occasionally)
    • Fill the lettuce wrap with the shrimp / bean sprouts / garlic mixture
    • Add cilantro, diced tomatos, and a squeeze of lime juice

Optional add a pinch of salt and/or pepper to taste
