Today Dr. Oz reached out to to experts and physicians at Medical Universities and Institutions to come up with 5 dollar remedies that really work for common household complaints like sore throats, back pain, and bad breath. Dr. Oz invited Dr. Daria Long Gillespie (from Harvard) to share cheap (5 dollars cheap!) quick fixes that will help treat common illnesses and painful ailments. Here are the $5 dollar remedies that were shared on today’s episode:
Frozen Peppermint Oil Eases Back Pain
Dr. Gillespie said one common complaint that she receives from her patients is back pain. If you deal with back pain Dr. Gillespie said to try this peppermint oil recipe to soothe the pain.
Peppermint Oil Back Pain Recipe :
- 1 Cup of water
- 2 drops of peppermint oil
- Freeze the water and peppermint oil in paper cups
- Massage on to areas of back pain
Sore Throat Remedy
We all suffer from sore throats occasionally throughout the cold season. Dr. Oz said that most of the sore throats that we get are caused by viruses and a trip to the doctor isn’t going to help this ailment (not to mention the expense). Dr. Gillespie shared this sore throat remedy that will sooth a cough and the symptoms associated with a sore throat.
Sore Throat Recipe :
- 1 tbsp raw natural honey
- 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp water
- 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne. She said that cayenne contains an ingredient called “Capsasin” to help soothe sore throat pain.
Mix up all the ingredients noted above and take a couple of teaspoons to sooth your sore throat.
Ease Toothache Pain With Whole Cloves
Dr. Gillespie said that this remedy is so effective that it is even used in emergency rooms. She even recommends this remedy to her own patients. Dr. Oz put some whole cloves in his mouth and he said that they made his whole mouth numb. Whole cloves can be found at grocery stores for only a few dollars.
Parsley Remedy For Bad Breath
Perhaps you may have heard of this one before but do you know why parsley is effective for bad breath? Bacteria is the culprit behind bad breath. It builds up on your teeth and tongue. Parsley kills this bad breath causing bacteria. It also freshens your breath.. This is a cheap fix for bad breath. Parsley can be found in your grocery store for less than two dollars!
