Stress Reducing Recipes on Dr. Oz

Today Dr. Oz did an episode on how to reduce your stress in 24 hours.  During this segment Dr. Oz talked about recipes that can help to balance your blood sugar while reducing your stress.  Here are the sweet potato burger, Mediterranean wild salmon, and wild quinoa salad recipes that he shared on today’s show.  Also be sure to checkout the follow up segment on Expert Tips To Lower Stress and Anxiety.

Oatmeal and Cinnamon Recipe To Balance Your Blood Sugar

Dr. Oz invited Mitzi Dulan (dietician) on to the show to talk about how you can introduce food into your diet to lower your stress..  She said that the #1 way to reduce stress is to balance your blood sugar and prevent sugar strikes which will trigger your stress.  She said that you can balance your glucose with this Oatmeal and cinnamon recipe :

Ingredients :

  • 3/4 raw oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup of hemp milk
  • 1 tsp of sliced almonds
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon

Preparation Directions :

Mix the hemp milk and oatmeal together and heat in the microwave for 1 minute and 45 seconds.  Add the sliced almonds and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon.Sweet Potato Veggie BurgerThis recipe is an excellent and healthy alternative to burgers.  The sweet potato veggie burger recipe will keep your glucose levels balanced all throughout the day.  It is also high in fiber with healthy Omega 3 fats.  Here are the ingredients and preparation directions for the sweet potato burger recipe :

  • 1 15 ounce can of drained cannellini white beans
  • 1 cooked sweet potato that has been mashed
  • 1 avocado
  • 1/8 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of Panko crumbs
  • 1/2 tablespoon tahini
  • 1/2 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (cold pressed)
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp lemon pepper seasoning
  • Black pepper
  • Wheat buns

Preparation directions :

  • Bake the sweet potatoes.
  • Peel the sweet potatoes
  • Place the cannellini white beans in with the sweet potatoes in a bowl and mash together
  • Add lemon pepper seasoning, honey, and Greek yogurt and blend evenly
  • Form the mixture into burger size patties.
  • Heat olive oil in pan
  • coat the patties with bread crumbs
  • Add the veggie patties to pan and cook until patties are browned on both sides
  • Add the patties to a whole wheat bun and two slices of avocado
  • Serve and enjoy!!

Mediterranean Wild Salmon Recipe

  • 1 5-6 ounces wild salmon fillet
  • 2 tbsp’s of feta cheese
  • 1/4 cup tomatoes (sun dried)
  • 2 tbsp of kalamata olives
  • 1 tbsp of pesto

Heat oven to 350 degrees. coat the salmon with pesto and add tomatoes, feta cheese, and olives to the top of the wild salmon.  Cook for 20 minutes.

Stress Reducing Carrot and Quinoa Salad Recipe

  • 1/4 cup of quinoa (you can choose red, white, or black quinoa)
  • 2 cups of organic baby spinach
  • 1 cup of water
  • 4 chopped baby carrots
  • 2 tsps of lemon juice
  • 2 tsps of chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tsp of extra virgin olive oil

Preparation directions :

Boil water and add in (rinsed) quinoa.  Cook for about 20 minutes.  Drain in strainer and set aside to cool.  After the quinoa has cooled mix in carrots, cilantro, olive oil, and lemon juice.  Add over a serving of organic baby spinach and enjoy.
