Dr. Oz Shares Stretch Mark Removal Tips : Microdermabrasion, Retinol, and Vitamin C Lotions
Stretch marks are a very common skin condition that effects many women. If you have had children that you likely have stretch marks to some degree. Today Dr. Oz shared tips on how to reduce the appearance of stretch marks by stimulating collagen and repairing the skin naturally. During this segment he shares how microdermabrasion, retinol, and vitamin c lotions are solutions that really work.
Why Do Women Get Stretch Marks
The most common and well recognized reason why women get stretch marks is because of child birth. However, there are other reasons like growth spurts and weight gain that can be the culprit behind stretch marks as well.. Problem areas include the belly, arms, and legs most predominately.
There is more to the process of what causes stretch marks than merely “stretching” of the skin. The stretch marks actually begin in the under layers of the skin rather than the outer layers. The stretch marks begin underneath and slowly move to the surface. The red marks are the skin trying to heal. The good news is that you can help the healing process and reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Here are the tips that Dr. Oz shared during today’s episode :
- Vitamin C Lotions – You have likely heard that vitamin C is good for this skin, but do you know why? Vitamin C lotions boost your collagen levels and increases your skin elasticity. This helps to repair your skin and reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Dr. Oz said to apply a Vitamin C lotion when you wake up in the morning and also at night before you go to bed.
- Tretinoin Cream is a vitamin A cream. Tretinoin cream can only be purchased with a prescription but it is quite powerful at reducing stretch marks. It takes approximately 12 weeks before you will notice the beneficial results.
- Retinol Creams will give you the same benefits as Tretinoin creams but they will take a little longer before you notice a change.
- Microdermabrasion Machines – These type of machines stimulate your skin to repair itself and heal. The stretch marks will be less visible. The cost of having a microdermabrasion treatment is approximately 150 dollars. You will need about 3 treatments for best results.
