Dr. Oz invited Dr. Diane Harper on to the show to share important information about HPV.  One question that concerned patients commonly ask is “What should I do if I have HPV?”  The first thing you should do is not panic!  Dr. Diane Harper said that having awareness about the 8 cancers that you could be at risk for is important.  Early detection is key in being able to treat these diseases while they are treatable.

Dr. Harper said that you should always show up to your scheduled screenings and tests.  She helped to calm fears by saying that 90 percent of HPV infections that people contract will clear up on their own without any sort of treatment at all.  Pre cancerous symptoms will only occur in about 5 percent of HPV cases.  With early detection they are treatable and curable.

Can You Get Rid Of HPV?

In most cases your body can remove HPV from your body and prevent pre-cancerous symptoms from occurring.  So, how do you get rid of HPV? Dr. Jennifer Ashton explained to Dr. Oz and the audience that the best thing you can do to get rid of HPV is to keep your immune system strong.
