Quick-Fit Vegan Eggnog Low Calorie Recipe

Did you know that on average, people will gain 5 to 7 pounds during the Holiday season?  It’s hard to refuse all of those treats and goodies that are all around.  While, they sure do taste good, you might be a little upset when you notice that all of your clothes are fitting just a little bit tighter after the Holiday season is over.  Soon, you will be making those “weight loss” New Years resolutions that you have made so many times before.  One delicious treat that millions of people enjoy during the Holidays is Egg Nog.  Before, you have one too many you should be aware that eggnog contains ingredients like whipping cream, sugar, eggs, and yes…. bourbon.  Just partaking in one cup of eggnog will add 343 calories, and 21 grams of sugar to your daily intake.  Fortunately, Dr. Oz invited Rachel Beller on to the show to share her reduced calorie egg nog recipe that contains healthier ingredients. Enjoy the Holidays in a healthier (and every bit as tasty) way without putting yourself at risk for weight gain.

Quick-Fit Vegan Eggnog Recipe by Rachel Beller

Rachel Beller (author of the book Eat to Lose, Eat to Win) was invited on to the show to share how  you can enjoy all of the treats of the Holiday season in a healthier way.  Here is the Vegan Eggnog recipe that she shared on the December 17, 2013 episode :

Ingredients :

  • 1 1/2 cups almond milk
  • 1/2 of an avocado
  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 tsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp of pumpkin spice
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Optional ingredients that you can add :

  • 1 tbsp white chia seeds
  • 1 oz of bourbon (only for those ages 21 and older!)

Preparation directions :

Mix all of the ingredients noted above and enjoy.  This lower calories eggnog recipe only contains 170 calories.  This is less than half of a traditional eggnog recipe that is full of unhealthy fats and sugar.  Enjoy the holiday season without the need of having to buy a whole new wardrobe after it is over!
