Vitamin D Deficiency and Cancer
The author of the best selling book, The Vitamin D Revolution, Dr. Soram Khalsa says that Vitamin D Deficiency is linked to at least 17 types of cancer, heart disease, chronic pain, osteoporosis, diabetes, and many other life threatening diseases. He gave a startling example that really caught Dr. Oz’s attention. He said that if women would keep their Vitamin D levels above 52, breast cancer occurrences would be reduced by 50%!!
Why Is Vitamin D So Important?
Dr. Oz performed one of his infamous on stage video presentations to explain why Vitamin D is so important. He said that we get Vitamin D naturally when we walk outdoors in the direct sunlight. He said that Vitamin D boosts our immune systems and builds a defense against cancer cells so they can’t grow inside of our bodies. He said that nearly 2/3 of American citizens have low levels of Vitamin D (or are deficient). He believes that more doctors should be checking or treating their patients to make sure that their Vitamin D levels are in a healthy range. Dr. Soram said this is one of the main reasons why he decided to write “The Vitamin D Revolution”.
Should You Get Your Vitamin D Through Sun Exposure Or Supplementation?
Sunlight exposure is the best way to boost your Vitamin D levels but you also run the risk of sun cancer (and premature aging of the skin) when you exposure yourself to too much sun. Dr. Soram says that he personally takes 6,000 – 7,000 units each day. However, he regularly checks his Vitamin D levels. He did say that you can get too much Vitamin D so if you can’t check your levels regularly you can safely take 5,000 units per day.
Dr. Soram Khalsa Recommended Vitamin D Dosage
- Adults – 2,000 units per day
- Children 1 and over – 1000 units per day
- Newborns under 1 year can take 400 units per day
Dr. Oz said that when you are out purchasing a Vitamin D supplement make sure that the bottle says “Vitamin D-3”. Dr. Oz also said that the best approach that you can take is to get short periods of direct exposure to sunlight in tandem with taking a Vitamin D supplement.
Phthalates Toxins Warning For Women
What are Phthalates and why should women know about this chemical? Dr. Khalsa said that Phthalates are chemicals that are found in personal care and cosmetic products. These personal products include shampoos, make up, hand creams, and more. He said that each day that a woman applies her daily personal products she has applied approximately 123 chemicals to her body. He also went on to say that Phthalates have been linked to breast cancer
