Dr. Oz said one of the biggest eating movements in the decade is called the “Whole30”.  Today, Dr. Oz invited Melissa Hartwig (author of The Whole30 Eating Plan) on to the show to share how you can utilize the Whole30 diet plan to overhaul your health in only 30 days.  This plan is not only popular, but it has gone viral.  Why?  Because it not just helps you to lose weight, but it creates a whole new mindset at how you think about eating.  Today Dr. Oz shared #Whole30 diet recipes, as well as the Ballerina Smoothie by Misty Copeland.

The Whole30 Beginner’s Guide to Cooking Clean

Dr. Oz said that even if you don’t know how to boil water, “The Beginner’s Guide to Cooking Clean” will help you with everything you need to participate in the Whole30 transformation plan.  In just one month your clothes will be loser, and more importantly you will look and feel healthier!

Dr. Oz spoke with Melissa Hartwig and he said that he is amazed at how Whole30 has caught on to such a point where people follow it as if it’s like a cult.  Melissa said that people don’t want to diet anymore.  Their Facebook feeds are flooded with endless diets, and they are tired of riding that roller coaster.   They want a lifestyle change that will stick for the long term.  The Whole30 has online support groups and the communities are very supportive.  She said that when you join The Whole30, it feels like your part of a tribe.  Your are part of something bigger than yourself and it just feels good.

What You Should and Should NOT Eat While On The Whole30 Program

The “Do’s and Don’t” are quite simple and can be summarized by this short list.

Foods to NOT eat :

  • Junk food
  • Alcohol
  • Grains
  • Dairy
  • Sugar
  • Legumes

Foods You SHOULD Eat :

  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Healthy fats

Melissa said that the Whole30 plan is a whole body and mind reset with foods that you eat and the way that you think about food.  In 30 days you will eliminate problematic foods and you will notice wonderful changes in your mood, digestion, your sleep, aches and pains, cravings and more!  After 30 days you will slowly reimplement some of the foods that  you avoided to find the perfect diet plan for you, because we are all different.  You may decide to eliminate some foods permanently, while adding those that agree with your body and your new lifestyle that you have chosen for yourself.  If you make the lifestyle change you can look forward to a healthier life, you will lose weight, your outlook and life will improve.   Really, what is there to lose?

Ballerina Smoothie and Whole30 Recipes


  • 1/2 cup berries (any type)
  • 1 handful baby spinach
  • 1 cup nondairy milk (such as almond milk or coconut milk)
  • 2 tsp honey or agave syrup (optional)


1. Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
