Rosacea is a skin disease that often affects those in their 30’s and 40s.  Rosacea symptoms can be marked  by

  • Redness of the face
  • Flushing of skin
  • hard pimples, which are called papules
  • Small visible spider like veins
  • Swelling

The Doctors invited some guests to appear on today’s show to talk about Rosacea and how it has affected their lives.  One woman named Jessica said that she calls herself tomato face.  After she exercises her cheeks becomes red and it takes awhile for them to cool down.  Jessica explained that she has seen many doctors and has tried all sorts of prescriptions with limited success.  She said that she covers up her rosacea with makeup, but she feels the makeup is now giving her acne.  Dr. Ordon said that she indeed does have Rosacea and some of the symptoms that she has is the direct result of inflammation of the sebaceous glands.

Dr. Ordon talked about a new treatment for Rosacea called Pulsed Dye Laser Therapy.  Dr. Orton took Jessica back to the procedure room to have the Pulsed Dye Laser treatment to be performed by Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian.  He said that her enlarged microcapillaries  are what is causing her symptoms.  He explained that this treatment (Pulsed Dye Laser therapy) will “zap” them away.  The procedure takes less than a minute.
